Dog owners warned of autumn acorn dangers

Dog owners are being urged to prevent their pets from eating acorns after a dog became seriously ill. The nuts contain tannic acid - which can cause damage to the liver and kidneys.Signs of toxic illness can include:

  • Vomiting

  • Diarrhoea

  • Abdominal pain

  • A lack of appetite and lethargy

  • Ingested acorns can also cause an intestinal blockage
