Except of course it was actually more of a reddy colour!

Last night was a triple whammy of lunar excitement with a blood moon, a super moon and a total lunar eclipse.

I must confess that I was tucked up in my bed when most of the excitement happened but thankfully my meridianweather@itv.com inbox was full of pictures to show me what I'd missed.

So here are just a few of them and thanks to everyone who took the time and trouble to send them in.

By the way, the next total lunar eclipse we'll get to see in the Meridian region will be on Friday July 27th 2018 but if it's a blood super moon you fancy, well that won’t happen again until 2033.

The supermoon rising over Saltdean at 18.50 from Karen Clark
Blood Moon at 3.12 am from Ross Davenport at Ashford Windmill in Kent
The blood moon over Dover in a photo taken at daft o’clock according David Trelfor who stayed up for the whole eclipse though.
