Passengers stuck on a stranded train from Calais arrive back after "disgusting" 16 hour journey
Exhausted passengers arriving from Calais after a 16-hour journey have described conditions on board their stranded train as "disgusting".
Those arriving at St Pancreas International said they saw migrants trying to climb onto the train near Calais and heard them walking along the roof.
They said they were left for hours with no food, in darkness and overbearing heat after the power was cut, then packed into a cold station after the carriages were finally evacuated.
Passenger George Golesack, said: "We were sitting at Calais for 14 hours trapped on the train. The batteries went dead and it was pitch black.
"One woman had a massive panic attack and another woman who was pregnant had to be taken to hospital. People were trying to climb on the train. They were searching for two hours because they said there were people on the roof."
Franck Lacour, travelling with his 12-year-old son Ben, said: "When we were going to enter the tunnel the train stopped because there weremigrants on the tracks.
"Then they said the migrants had climbed up on the train and were on the roof of the train and underneath the train. The police had to come and a helicopter came to search the roof."
Bridget Roussel, 52, from Greenwich, south east London, said the conditions on board were "disgusting".
"It was awful, I've been travelling since 7.30 last night (French time)," sheadded. "Just before we got to the tunnel it was chaos.
"The lights went off and the air conditioning went off, it was so hot. Thetoilet by that time was so disgusting, it made me feel sick.
"It was just disgusting. I've never experienced anything like that in my life. The worst thing was that there was no communication whatsoever."
