Campaigners say the expansion of the airport would have a 'devastating' impact

Campaigners have delivered a letter to Downing Street opposing the expansion of Gatwick Airport.

The letter asks the Prime Minister to consider public opposition to a second runway and new flight paths. It also calls on the Airports Commission to fully assess the impact of airport expansion on Sussex, Surrey and Kent.

The letter addressed to the Prime Minister calls on the government to 'recognise the level of public and political opposition to Gatwick expansion in the local area' and ensure local residents are consulted over key decisions.

Sir John Stanley, Conservative Member of Parliament for Tonbridge and Malling, speaks to ITV News Meridian below.
