Simon's Blog - Birds Of A Feather...
...don't necessarily flock together!
Thanks for all of the Big Garden Birdwatch updates through the weekend and here are just a few of the many photos of the visitors to our gardens that came in.
As well as the Nuthatch at the top of the page Ann-Marie Woodward in Farnborough had a visit from a blue tit...
...and a great tit.
Dave Rayment in Longwick in Buckinghamshire had a visit from a Sparrow hawk...no mention of any sparrows either before or after!
Roger Bishop in Thame was delighted when his garden was visited by a Red Kite and a Jackdaw at the same time.
And Jackdaws clearly are quite sociable as Robert Olley in Reading had one and a woodpigeon happily sharing the contents of his compost bin. He said there were no squabbles and "maybe the jackdaw eats the worms and insects and the woodpigeon eats the vegetable matter".
And Jenny Barker in Alresford in Hampshire saw a couple of winter visitors you don’t see often this far south, a pair of Siskins.
Ross Lawford in St Leonards-on-Sea was visited by what he described as a mean looking robin!
Richard Dunkling from Eythorne near Dover spotted a dunnock on his elderberry branch
Tina Shaw in Gillingham was visited by a couple of great tits...one of them had a very interesting way of eating!
And the aptly named Dee Finch in East Farleigh had a relaxing hour doing the birdwatch and amongst other things had a visit from a thrush...
and a very hungry blackbird!
Margaret Wellspring of Crossways in Dorset counted twelve goldfincheslining up at her feeder, plus a chaffinch muscling in.
Becky Davies in Brighton was visited by the hardest birds in the region...
...cold or not they still had a bath!
You have to look hard to see the green woodpecker in John Bell’s apple tree in the Portswood area of Southampton.
Meanwhile in Fareham and David has had some very exotic visitors...
...he’s had Indian Ring Necks in his garden every day since October.
And here’s a shocker from Jacqui Lewis in Thornhill near Bitterne…
...two baby pigeons that hatched on her balcony under a chair. She says "I didn’t know birds laid eggs in the winter".
Finally Christina Waters was thrilled to see Woody the woodpigeon turn up on her bird table...
...almost as thrilled as her hungry cat!!
No birds were harmed during the taking of these photos!
