Second day of train delays through Reading
Twenty five trains have today been cancelled at Reading as rail managers try to reduce the chaos caused yesterday by overrunning engineering works and a signal failure which then led to drivers and trains in the wrong place. This morning trains that are running have only minor delays with most on time. First Great Western spokesman Dan Panes said: "We hope our amended timetable will mean a much better service for passengers today. By running slightly fewer services it will give us the ability to recover from any issues. The problem we have is that only two of the main lines through the station are open so if we have anything like a broken down trains or points problem it is difficult to recover. That was the problem yesterday. What we have done now is to thinned out the service and so far we have seen a much better service." The company will again review the service for tomorrow later today. The full changes are below: First Great Western and CrossCountry are unable to run their normal timetable through Reading because of congestion caused by the ongoing improvements being made to the station.Because of this an amended timetable will be in use on Wednesday 3 April and the following changes will apply:

Oxford Services
Fast (limited stop) services between Oxford and London Paddington will be reduced to an hourly service. Stopping services will run as normal.
Reading Services
The 06:35, 06:57 and 06:59 Reading to London Paddington services are cancelled. Passengers should travel on the 07:14 Reading to London Paddington service instead.
Bristol Services
The 05:20 Bristol Temple Meads to London Paddington and the the 16:57 London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads are cancelled, passengers should use the next available services.
Worcester Shrub Hill Services
The 05:21 Worcester Shrub Hill to London Paddington service will terminate at Swindon, where passengers can catch a connecting service for onward travel.
Cheltenham Services
The 06:31 Cheltenham Spa to London Paddington service will terminate at Swindon, where passengers can catch a connecting service for onward travel.
The 15:45 London Paddington to Cheltenham Spa service will start at Swindon. Passengers for Cheltenham Spa should travel on the retimed 15:42 London Paddington - Swansea service to Swindon for onward connection, which will now leave at 15:45.
The 17:45 London Paddington to Cheltenham Spa service will start at Swindon. Passengers for Cheltenham Spa should travel on the retimed 17:42 London Paddington to Swansea service to Swindon for onward connection, which will now leave at 17:45.
