Notorious level crossing to be replaced with a bridge

Ufton Nervet level crossing will close

Network Rail has announced that a notorious level crossing in Berkshire - the scene of one of the most horrific train crashes in the UK, *will *close following a lengthy campaign by local residents.

Seven people were killed at Ufton Nervet between Reading and Newbury in 2004 when a train hit a car. Since then it's been the scene of several accidents. Earlier this year another man was killed at the crossing.

Today Network Rail announced the barriers would be replaced by a bridge as our transport correspondent Mike Pearse explains.
