Guard of honour for powerboat racer's funeral
Powerboat racers will form a guard of honour at a church in Hampshire today at the funeral of fellow racer Mike Lovell.
The 27-year-old from Southampton died when his boat flipped while he was competing off the coast of Weymouth on Sunday September 16, 2012. His navigator Dan Whapples from Warsash was seriously injured. They had been taking part in a national powerboat racing championship.
The accident happened in the area of Weymouth Town Beach and the harbour entrance. The competition was the first visit of the P1 SuperStock UK Championship to the Dorset coastal resort for the national powerboat series finale.
