Weapons cache could have IRA link
A cache of hidden weapons has been found on the Isle of Wight.
Hampshire Police confirmed the discovery on Thursday night, saying the weapons haul included two guns, ammunition and two homemade incendiary devices in Parkhurst Forest.
The items were found by a dog walker on Friday 24th August.
The South East Counter Terrorism Unit is investigating the weapons which are believed to have been hidden in the forest for several years.
Officers say one line of enquiry is that the weapons are related to IRA prisoners who were held in the island's jails during the 1970s and 80s.
The police say they do not believe the arms relate to any current criminal activity.
