New laws on Squatters' Rights
From 1st September 2012 Squatters' Rights will be scrapped.
In the past some squatters have invaded properties, causing misery and leaving hefty repair bills for the rightful property owners in their wake.
The new law which could see squatters jailed for six months and fined £5,000, has been widely welcomed by property owners.
But campaigners for the homeless say criminalising squatting will lead to an increase in some of the most vulnerable people sleeping rough. Charlotte Wilkins reports.
