Isle of Wight Festival - the clean up

End of festival poses questions about chaos caused by weather

The organisers of the Isle of Wight festival say that lessons will be learned after heavy rainfall led to chaos at this weekend's event. Car parks had to be closed because they were steeped in mud, roads became gridlocked and hundreds of people had to sleep in their cars.

At the same time those running the festival said there was nothing they could do about the weather.

As the last of the revellers were leaving the site near Newport today, a massive clear-up operation began. Extra police officers were drafted in and a fleet of tractors and 4x4s was on hand to make sure no vehicles were left stranded. Andrew Pate reports.
