Ed Miliband covered in egg
While being interviewed by Meridian's political correspondent Phil Hornby someone decided to crack an egg on the shoulder of Labour leader Ed Miliband. He had just finished conducting a victory speech following a landslide to Labour in Southampton's local government elections.
But the Labour leader is not the first person to be egged while campaigning in Southampton. In 1992, Conservative leader John Major was attacked with an egg while campaigning in Hedge End. John McIntyre a 25 year old student from Portsmouth was fined £100 and ordered to pay Mr Major £10 in compensation after the incident.
