The Department for Transport has said it is 'urgently speaking' to Network Rail after major delays at London Bridge station today. Earlier this morning a broken down freight train blocked a line into the station, causing delays for the entire day. Now the Government has said is it 'extremely frustrating' that thousands of commuters face disruption. Last week, images of people jumping over the barriers were posted online after commuters were left stranded.
A Department for Transport spokesman said:
"It is extremely frustrating that thousands of commuters on this important route again face unscheduled disruption. It is vital that Network Rail and the operators keep passengers informed and we are urgently speaking to them to ensure this happens. "The Government is investing record amounts into to the network to improve London Bridge station and deliver more frequent, more reliable train services. While some disruption is inevitable, the network has to be robust and steps must be taken to manage these problems."
The unlicensed events unfolded on Saturday night at Clapham Common and Tooting Bec Common.
A 37 year old man who was taken to hospital after getting into difficulty in a stretch of water near Maidenhead has died.
