'Exploding' van in Hackney: Worker critical

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after a van exploded in Hackney.

Police and fire crews are at the scene on Mare Street, Hackney, after the van and a building set on fire at around 12:15pm.

The explosion is thought to be the result of works carried out near a generator inside a commercial property, police said.

The road remains closed.

An "exploding" van that set on fire in Hackney this afternoon is "not terrorist-related," Metropolitan Police have said.

The van and a property are believed to have set on fire as a result of works carried out near a generator inside a commercial property at around 12:15pm, police said.

A man in his thirties - believed to be a worker at the property - suffered serious burn injuries in the incident and is in a critical condition at an East London hospital.

There are no other reported injuries.
