Boris Johnson has spoken out against "civil liberties nuts" who oppose the surveillance of terror suspects.

Speaking at the Trafalgar Square rally in honour of the Paris terror victims, he was asked by Ann Clancy, whose daughter survived the July 7 2005 bombings in London, what the Government is doing to prevent another terror attack on UK soil.

We are well aware of a large number of people who mean our country and our society harm no good.

We're taking steps to monitor them, to bug them, to follow them and I personally have absolutely no problem with that.

There are a lot of civil liberties nuts these days who say that we should hang back.

I'm personally in favour of surveying these people and knowing who they are and what they're doing.

When they come from foreign countries like Abu Hamza and they're capable of being sent back to those countries, they should be sent back.
