Plans to demolish Smithfield Victorian buildings rejected

Plans to demolish Victorian buildings at a historic site in central London have been rejected by the Government.

Proposals by Henderson Global Investors to knock down part of Smithfield Market and replace them with an office and retail development were turned down. Ministers agreed with the planning inspector's recommendation to refuse an application for the redevelopment of part of the market.
