Brentford FC's new 20,000 seater stadium gets the go-ahead

Brentford Football Club have announced on social media website Twitter that plans for a new 20,000-seater stadium have been approved by the government.

The plan required confirmation from the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Planning because Hounslow Council granted permission but English Heritage raised objections.

The public body had concerns about the impact of tower blocks and a hotel being built to pay for the stadium.

The club said it was a "once in a generation chance" for a new home.

Jagdish Sharma from Hounslow Council, said: "This is great news for Brentford Football Club and the borough.

"It not only means the Bees will have a top-class stadium, it will help the continuing rejuvenation of Brentford itself."
