London Road will remain closed for 'some time'

The London Fire Brigade has warned that London Road will remain closed for "some time" following a fire at a mosque there this afternoon.

The fire broke out at the Baitul Futuh Mosque in Morden just after 12pm.

Firefighters remain on the scene.

This is a large fire and our crews are working hard to minimise fire spread to other parts of the mosque.

We are working closely with the local community to ensure our damage control operations take full regard of the religious significance of the building's contents.

There is also a lot of traffic congestion near the incident so we would advise people to avoid the area if possible.
