Man murdered in Whitechapel on New Year's Day

43-year-old John Keenan suffered a serious head injury at Sidney Street in Whitechapel shortly after 1.30am on New Years Day. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man arrested over the murder in Whitechapel on New Year's Day has been charged.

34 year old Terry Hamer, of Newbold Cottages, Sidney Street in Whitechapel will appear in custody at Thames Magistrates' Court tomorrow charged with murder.

A 25-year-old woman also arrested has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was found dead in the early hours of New Year's Day. Emergency services were called to reports that a man had suffered a serious head injury in Sidney Street in Whitechapel shortly after 1.30am. The 43-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 34-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody. A special post-mortem examination, due to the victim's head injury, is due to take place at Poplar Mortuary today. The victim has not been formally identified but next of kin have been informed.
