Brent council celebrates new civic centre
The new, hundred-million pound Civic Centre in Brent was officially opened today. Amid the celebrations, the Council is claiming the money was well spent, as the new, environmentally friendly building puts it's staff and services together under one roof.
But the project has not been without controversy - as Robyn Dwyer reports.
Brent's new civic centre officially opens to the public
Brent's new £90 million civic centre officially opens to the public today.
The council claim it is one of the most environmentally friendly buildings in Britain, and will contribute to savings of £2.5 million a year by bringing many services under one roof. 2,500 staff and the operations from 13 different buildings will be relocated here.
However, Brent council has come under fire in the past for its spending on official buildings - it drew criticism earlier this year for spending £100 million on a new town hall at the same time as shutting six of the twelve libraries in the borough.
