Travellers who were evicted from a south west London park have left behind "huge quantities" of construction waste, Wandsworth council say.

Officials have branded the mess "an absolute disgrace" after builders' rubble, wood and other materials were dumped on Tooting Common.

The group arrived in a fleet of 19 cars and caravans on Tuesday but left yesterday after the council told them they would face legal action if they remained.

The clean-up operation is expected to cost thousands of pounds.
