Kidnapped aid worker from London rescued in Afghanistan

The Foreign Office has said that Helen Johnston from Stoke Newington, an aid worker who was kidnapped in Afghanistan on the 22nd of May, has been freed by coalition forces. She was rescued after a morning raid in Badakhshan province along with a Kenyan and two Afghan civilians.

In a statement, Ms Johnston's family said: "We are delighted and hugely relieved by the wonderful news that Helen and all her colleagues have been freed. We are deeply grateful to everyone involved in her rescue."
