Bees invade car park in Billericay leaving worker unable to drive home
An Essex worker was unable to drive home after a swarm of bees invaded a car park.
Steve Lacey said he and several of his colleagues had parked their cars in a staff car park at the back of their factory in Billericay. But, after they came back from their lunch break, they discovered a huge swarm of bees in the cark park. Steve said: "Within about an hour, they congregated on this girl's car." Steve and his colleagues believed the bees would probably disperse overnight, so the woman whose car had been 'chosen' by the bees got a lift home and back to work and left her car in the car park.
But when they arrived in the morning (May 11), they found the bees had now grouped together in a cluster around the car's rear wheel. Steve said: "Everyone was fascinated, seeing the swarm of bees and them dancing around on the side of the car. They weren't trying to come at us at all. They were just interested in the queen bee that was sitting on the car." The car the bees chose to settle on is a yellow-gold colour, and a photo shared by Steve shows the bees clumped in a tight group around the back of the car, above the right wheel.
Steve then put out a call on Facebook for local beekeepers who might want to pick up the swarm. Steve explained that beekeepers often like having another swarm of bees so they can set up another hive. He said he's had "loads" of responses, and a local beekeeper was coming to take the bees away this morning.
