Indoor gyms, swimming pools and sports facilities in London have reopened as the government continues to lift lockdown rules. However, it’s not quite business as usual, with strict hygiene and social-distancing measures in place.
At pools, swimmers must book a time slot in advance and arrive ‘beach ready'.Lanes have been widened so that swimmers can social distance whilst exercising.
The London Aquatics Centre is taking half its usual number of swimmers and has introduced more ventilation.
The centre has also banned backstroke to limit breaths out into the atmosphere versus into chlorinated water.Swimmers must come on their own but there are limited family sessions available.
GLL - who run the centre in Stratford - say lockdown has had a huge financial impact on them.
At least a third of gyms and leisure centres nationwide are expected to stay shut because of financial difficulties caused by the coronavirus lockdown.
