Victim of ‘horrific’ weekend shooting in Penge is named by police
Police have named the victim of a suspected fatal shooting in south London and appealed for witnesses to come forward.
Officers were called by the London Ambulance Service at around 2.20am on Sunday to a man collapsed on Croydon Road in Penge.
The Metropolitan Police said in a statement that they were confident the victim is Dean Edwards, 43, of South Norwood, though a post-mortem has yet to take place. His next-of-kin have been notified.
The force said they believe Mr Edwards was walking through Betts Park and was about to leave via the Croydon Road exit near the Tremaine Road junction, when he was shot in the back of the head.
Detective chief inspector Kate Kieran said a “fast-paced investigation” was examining the “horrific incident”.
