Dozens of sitting ducks were rescued from the M25 motorway near Watford after an RSPCA inspector spent more than two hours rounding them up.

Police had to close the road when around 60 ducks strayed onto the carriageway in Hertfordshire. When RSPCA Animal Officer Kate Wright arrived she couldn't quite believe her eyes.

Kate added that some birds had been hit and killed before officers arrived and she still didn't know how they ended up on the motorway.

There were so many ducks Kate ran out of boxes to take them away so had to come back and do a second run.

She ran down the motorway weaving between the halted traffic with a net trying to catch the stragglers.
