A teenage boy stopped by police five times in a fortnight believes he was singled out because of the colour of his skin.

Reece Louis was handcuffed and questioned by officers under the Misuse of Drugs Act. No drugs were found and Reece said the experience left him feeling angry and embarrassed.

Reece, 16, from Tower Hamlets, believes he was targeted because of the clothes he was wearing, the bike he was riding as well as his skin colour.

His mother said she backed the use of stop and search because it was an effective way of tackling crime, but only when carried out properly.

Reece said he hoped he wouldn’t see the officers again and was worried about how to dress when he goes out.

Stuart Lawrence, the brother of murdered teenager Stephen Lawrence, said he found what happened to Reece upsetting.

The Met Police said officers had to make judgement calls on a daily basis, often in difficult circumstances and that they understand their actions will be scrutinised.
