Young amputee Tony Hudgell raises nearly £1m for the hospital that saved his life
A five-year-old boy has raised nearly £1m for the London hospital that saved his life after spending lockdown learning to walk with his new prosthetic legs.
Tony Hudgell was the victim of horrendous abuse as a baby and injuries inflicted by his biological parents left him in a life-threatening condition.
To thank those who helped him at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital Tony has been raising money by walking 10km throughout June.
Wearing his first ever pair of trainers Tony has completed over 8km so far and raised £900,000.
His hospital consultant told ITV News it was an astonishing achievement.
Tony said he found his inspiration from older lockdown hero Captain Tom who walked 100 lengths of his garden to raise millions for the NHS.
His story even caught the eye of Kensington Palace who said they were "Proud of the incredible courage and determination shown by Tony Hudgell."
The Duchess of Cambridge is Patron of the Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
