'Just stay home': Grieving boxer Anthony Yarde begs Londoners not to ignore lockdown after losing father and grandmother
A boxer whose father and grandmother died just days apart with coronavirus begged Londoners not to ignore the lockdown.
Anthony Yarde said people who went to parks to mingle, talk and smoke showed a lack of consideration which made him feel "angry and upset".
"They obviously know what's going on, but haven't taken time to be considerate," Yarde told ITV News.
The Stratford boxer posted about the death of close family members on Instagram revealing how they died six days apart.
Yarde said his career as a boxer and the lessons he has learnt helped him cope with his grief.
Anthony Yarde had a late start to his boxing career at the age of 19. Less than ten years later in 2019 Yarde fought for a world title against Sergey Kovalev.
In the eighth round of the fight Yarde came close but not close enough to achieving his world title dream.
Yarde’s all or nothing strategy left him drained and he was eventually knocked out by his more experienced opponent.
Yarde’s comeback fight was meant to be at The O2 against Lyndon Arthur in April but was postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
