Parking spaces and traffic lanes will vanish in a radical shake-up of London's street map to encourage walking and cycling post-lockdown, City Hall announced today.

Officials want millions of Londoners to abandon public transport and private cars in a bid to stop buses and trains being swamped.

Pavements will be widened to allow pedestrians and people queuing at shops to obey social distancing rules.

New temporary bikes lanes are to be fast-tracked, lower speed limits will be imposed and some streets will be closed to traffic. City Hall said the emergency measures could become permanent.
