Tallest LED Christmas tree in London unveiled in Wembley Park

A Christmas tree with a difference has been installed at Wembley Park. Not only is it the tallest LED tree in the capital, it is also the only one which visitors can walk through.

The illuminated tree, entitled The Hopeful Tree, has been put up as part of Winterfest, a free light festival. The 25 metre high display uses 100,000 lights and has been designed so visitors can walk through it and view it from the inside as well as admire it from a distance.

Also as part of Winterfest, Olympic Way, which runs up to Wembley Stadium, has been turned into a corridor of sound and light with more LEDs and a soundtrack. It is the first time 'Sonic Runway', which was part of the Burning Man Festival in the US, has been shown in Europe.

Digital ‘flocks of birds’ perch on 36 newly-planted trees on Olympic Way in ‘Murmurationof Hopes’, a site-specific light commission by architectural designer Elyne Legarnisson.

The installation, displayed across 15 giant LED display clouds of light, was inspired by the sounds and patterns made when birds flock together.
