First ever 360 degree infinity pool planned for London skyscraper

Plans are in place to build the world's first 360 degree infinity swimming pool in central London.

Guests will be able to swim 200 meters up, on top of a 55 storey hotel. They will access the pool via a rotating underwater spiral staircase which will rise from the floor when someone wants to get in or out.

The base will be clear, allowing people in the building to see up through the pool.

The pool will made from cast acrylic rather than glass, as this material transmits light at a similar wavelength to water so that the pool will look perfectly clear.

Construction of the building, to be known as Infinity, could start in 2020 if partners and contractors are confirmed.

The pool's designer Alex Kemsley said: “Architects often come to us to design roof top infinity pools, but rarely do we get a say in the building design because the pool is usually an afterthought.

“But on this project, we actually started with the pool design and essentially said, ‘how do we put a building underneath this?'"
