New blue look for Big Ben

The face of the Big Ben clock is restored to its former glory

After more than a year of restoration work the top of the 'Big Ben' Elizabeth Tower has been revealed, showing a new blue look for the clock.

The hands, dial and numerals were painted black in the 1930s. They have now been returned to the orginal blue colour which would have been seen the tower was finished in 1859.

The north dial of the clock has now been revealed, with the numerasl and clock hands painted in Prussian blue and gold.

Restoration work was last carried out on the tower in the 1980s

The Great Bell in the Elizabeth Tower, known as Big Ben, has been silenced since 2017. Restoration work is set to take four years.
