What London could have looked like

Over the years some weird and wonderful architectural plans have been proposed across the capital.

From an elevated airport at Westminster to a pyramid in Trafalgar Square, plenty have had overly optimistic plans.

They never made it into reality but now you can see how they potentially would have change the London landscape.

One of the proposals was to build a pyramid-like structure where Trafalgar square now sits to commemorate the victories of the Battle of Trafalgar and the Battle of the Nile.

It would have been taller than St Paul's cathedral but the plans were eventually scrapped.

Westminster City Airport was a novel idea.

It can be time consuming getting out to Gatwick, Heathrow or Stansted, so an international airport next to the Houses of Parliament might have been useful.

Plans for Westminster City Airport were drawn up in 1934 but it was never built.

How can you solve the issues around congestion in London?

Well, one early idea was to construct a monorail around the capital. When they were originally proposed they were supposed to replace buses but it was decided not to grant permission for the plans.
