Cerys Matthews to perform live with Ballet Cymru
Ballet Cymru will perform two live shows in London over the weekend, with Cerys Matthews providing the music and narration.
The ballet is based on Dylan Thomas’s story ’A Child’s Christmas in Wales’, which will be performed on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 November at Sadler's Wells Theatre as part of a UK wide tour.
It will be the first time Matthews, who put the show to music, has appeared live in five years.
Jazzwise’s Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year Arun Ghosh will also perform as part of the the ballet.
The story enters Dylan’s imagination with adventures through snow, a ghost story, cats, hippos, presents, rum and uncles snoring by the fire. Featuring choreography by Creative Wales' Amy Doughty and award winner Darius James and with evocative, eloquent costumes.
Matthews said: "Dylan Thomas captures something so special in his A Child’s Christmas, a story of expectation and belonging, that sense of wonder one feels in the festive season wherever you’re from.
"Here we have a perfect foil for the award winning choreography of Ballet Cymru, and together they gift the world a fresh new winter ballet. I'm thrilled with the production, and doubly so, as I’ll be joining them live on stage for 5 of the shows to narrate some Dylan classics.”
