This weekend more than a million people will line the streets of central London for the annual Pride in London parade.

A team of hundreds of volunteers will be there too making sure the capital's third biggest event runs like clockwork. ITV London met some of them to find out why they believe Pride in London still matters.

  • Abby Chicken, Acting Director of Volunteering

Acting Director of Volunteering, Abby Chicken, doesn't feel nervous holding her girlfriend's hand in public - a freedom you can't enjoy everywhere in the world. And that's why, she says, the main parade on July 7th matters.

  • Kirsty Wilkins, Deputy Director for Operations

Deputy Director for Operations, Kirsty Wilkins still witnesses homophobic abuse on the streets of London. People should be whoever they want to be. And that's why, she says, the main parade on July 7th matters.

  • Christopher Deshields, Director of Community Engagement

Pride in London - why does it matter? Director of Community Engagement, Christopher Deshields says people around the world are still being killed for who they are and who they love. And, in many Commonwealth states homosexuality is still illegal. That's why, he says, the main parade on July 7th matters.
