Protesters have turned out in Windrush Square, Brixton in support of the so-called Windrush generation.

After it emerged that the Home Office destroyed thousands of landing cards documenting the arrival of windrush-era migrants, communities in Brixton gathered in Windrush Square in solidarity with those threatened with deportation, sacking and the removal of healthcare as result of what protesters are calling, the governments "hostile environment" strategy.

Thousands of people who arrived in the UK as children in the first wave of Commonwealth immigration now face the threat of deportation. A petitionwas launched in response, and this has already attracted over 173,000 signatures.
