Old Vic theatre launches 'guardian scheme' for concerned workers
London's Old Vic theatre has created a programme to offer employees a way of sharing concerns about behaviour in the workplace, after a series of allegations were made against former artistic director Kevin Spacey. 20 people have made claims against the actor, who was at the theatre between 2004 and 2015.
The Guardians programme will offer employees a way of sharing concerns about the behaviour or workplace culture following an internal investigation into the accusations. The theatre has also said it will develop a set of conduct rules, divided into categories of behaviours into "OK and Not OK."
New research out today has found that almost a third of theatre professionals in the UK have experienced sexual harassment at work. In a poll for the Stage newspaper surveying 1,050 people, 31% said they had encountered the problem. A further 43% who responded said they had been bullied. The survey also found that 67% of people who had suffered some form of harassment or bullying at work did not report it.
