Labour council set to defy ruling body over controversial regeneration
A Labour council looks set to defy the party's ruling body and press ahead with a controversial housing regeneration scheme.
The Labour national executive yesterday called on Haringey Council, north London to halt the £2bn redevelopment of housing estates.
The joint venture with property giant Lendlease would see the demolition of 1,300 homes on the Northumberland Park estate, Tottenham.
The scheme, bitterly opposed by many residents, has split the local Labour Party.
Haringey Council today insisted the redevelopment was the only 'viable option'.
