British Raj epic novel to be recreated as TV series made in India and London
One of the best known novels about the British Raj is to be recreated as a £110m TV series made in India and London.
The production deal to turn The Far Pavilions into a 30-episode drama was announced by London mayor Sadiq Khan on a visit to Mumbai.
MM Kaye’s epic novel about an English army officer was previously a 1980s mini series and a short-lived West End musical which closed in 2005.
The new series was described by City Hall as a record UK-India co-production. Location filming will be in India but post-production work will take place in London.
The show will be produced by Bollywood-based Britain Michael E Ward who was behind the West End show.
The mayor hopes to persuade Bollywood producers and directors to consider using a proposed new film studio in Dagenham.
