Olympic sprinter almost killed in motorbike crash aims for Commonwealth Games return

The Olympic sprinter James Ellington, who almost died in motorbike crash, has told ITV News London he hopes to be back on the track for next year's Commonwealth Games.

Ellington, who is from Lewisham, and his teammate Nigel Levine were badly injured in the accident in Tenerife in January.

He spent five days in intensive care after fracturing his pelvis and breaking both his legs.

He told ITV News London:

He was part of the British team who won gold in the 4x100m in the 2014 and 2016 European Championships.

He was in the peak of his career and hoping for gold at this summer's World Athletics Championships in London.> Doctors feared he'd never run again but he's optimistic about his rehab - which he starts next week.

He's concerned that if he doesn't recover soon, he'll lose his £21,000 lottery funding.

There would be few more inspirational sights, than seeing Ellington on the track competing again.
