Parents try to keep baby alive against wishes of doctors
By Rags Martel: ITV News reporter
When Charlie was born everything changed for his parents.
Charlie is now 7-months-old and has spent almost all his life in hospital. But doctors say there is nothing more they can do, they want to turn off his ventilator and let him die.
Charlie has a form of mitochondrial disease, a genetic condition that drains energy from his organs.
It's so rare it's thought only 16 people in the world have it. For the last 5 months Charlie has been treated at Great Ormond Street, but doctors say his condition is deteriorating and want to turn off his life support,
His parents are holding on to hope. Treatment for Charlie is available in America but it's so expensive it's not available on the NHS.
So what happens to this baby will be decided in court by a judge.
