Bar accused of discrimination for 'not allowing grime music'
A customer who wanted to hire The Exhibit bar in Balham for a private function has accused the venue's management of discrimination after being told certain genres of music cannot be played.
Bieneosa Ebite tweeted that she was told she couldn't play music by the grime artist Stormzy or the garage artist Craig David.
Through the booking website Design My Night, The Exhibit publish their booking policy which states: "The Exhibit prohibits any music that it deems to be too far away from being relatively mainstream/chart music. No Drum & Bass, Trance, Garage, Heavy/Death Metal, Dancehall, Bashment, Grime, Bassline."
The Exhibit tweeted Bieneosa Ebite back to say they 'love all music' and will get their General Manager to speak with Ms Ebite.
In the twitter exchange Ms Ebite said she would not be looking to hire the venue.
Croydon councillor Callton Young quoted Bieneosa Ebite's tweet, condemning The Exhibit saying: "It smacks of racial profiling and undermines inclusion."
