CCTV video footage released by police shows a man grabbing a supermarket security guard by the throat.

Police in Sutton borough have released CCTV footage of a man they would like to speak to in connection with an assault in Cheam.

Police called shortly before 4.50pm to reports of an assault at Sainsbury’s supermarket, High Street, Cheam, Surrey.

A 28-year-old man was grabbed by the neck by the suspect.

At 4.35pm the suspect walked into the store and showed a provisional driving licence to the salesman in order to purchase an item which was behind the counter. When the salesman refused to serve him, he became agitated.

As the store security guard picked up the licence, the suspect came round and grabbed the guard around his neck to take the licence from him. He then left before knocking a shelf onto the floor.

The suspect is described as a white male, in his teens with short brown hair wearing a white shirt, tie, dark trousers and black shoes.

The incident took place on November 11.

No arrests have been made and enquiries continue.
