Tram driver suspended after video appears to show him fall asleep
A tram driver who appears to fall asleep at the wheel in a video filmed by a commuter has been suspended.
A spokesman from FirstGroup, which operates the tram network, confirmed to ITV London that the driver has been "removed from duty" pending an investigation.
The footage, which was obtained by The Sun, was recorded on April 14 just two stops from the bend where a tram derailed in Croydon last week.
FirstGroup is probing the alleged incident along with Transport for London.
The Sun said the 33-second video was filmed between Coombe Lane and Gravel Hill stations just after 6pm.
The tram was travelling in the opposite direction to the tram involved in last week's tragedy which killed seven, it added.
