A tiny kitten has been rescued from inside a car engine - and nicknamed Clio after the Renault model he got stuck inside.

The tabby cat was initially spotted by a passer-by inside a bin in Ealing late last night and climbed into the car engine after becoming startled.

Rebecca Derbyshire was among the group who spent over an hour trying to coax the kitten from his hiding place, before jacking the vehicle and pulling him out at around midnight.

The kitten, thought to be about six weeks old, is said to be in a good condition and will be collected by the RSPCA today.

"He doesn't look like a stray and he's too young to be microchipped which is why I'm worried that someone might have lost him," Rebecca said.

She hopes that the owner will come forward.
