A police stand-off with a "vulnerable" man on an escalator in London's Victoria Station has been taking place for more than 15 hours.

British Transport Police said they were called to the busy Tube and train transport hub at around 4am to reports of a vulnerable man in a precarious position at the top of an escalator.

Since the stand-off began, police said specialist negotiators have been engaging with the man and working to bring him to a place of safety.

A cordon is in place around the escalator which is close to a number of shops in the station - which has direct services to Gatwick Airport and is served by the strike-ridden train provider, Southern Rail.
