A man has been charged with theft after Eddie Izzard had his pink beret snatched at a pro-EU rally in central London yesterday.

The comedian chased a man through the crowd while wearing high heels after the hat was stolen from the top of his head. Police pinned the man down and Izzard managed to retrieve his headwear, but it was later taken away as evidence.

Izzard, who is a vocal supporter of the EU, had been giving a speech at the rally in Whitehall to thousands of people before the incident took place. Police say a 26 year old man has been bailed to appear Westminster Magistrates' Court on 19 September.
