A man who raped a teenage au pair 32 years ago has been jailed for the crime.

Billy Roy Day, 50, of Cumbrian Way, Uxbridge, was found guilty of one count of rape, one court of buggery and one count of indecent assault.

He will serve 11 years in prison after being sentenced at Southwark Crown Court.

Day attacked and raped a 19-year old girl on 7 December 1984 as she walked in Shirehall Lane Park in Hendon, north London.

He intimated he had a knife during the attack.

Despite a police investigation, no significant leads were found and the victim returned to her native country.

In 1998, the samples taken from the victim and her clothing were re-examined and a DNA profile of the rapist was loaded on the database.

While there was no match at the time, in 2013 there was.

The victim was tracked down and officers flew to her homeland to tell her of the development.
