'Insane' crowding at station forces free cable car rides

Huge crowds were packed on the concourse of a busy Tube station, leaving staff to give passengers free rides on the Thames cable car.

Crowd control measures were put in place at North Greenwich station, on the Jubilee line, with passengers posting pictures on social media of a packed concourse.

A faulty Southeastern train at Blackheath station and delays at Bond Street station led to the problems.

But some commuters were able to take advantage of free rides on the Emirates Air Line which were offered.

The cable car crosses the river between Greenwich Peninsular and the Royal Docks.
